Mob lynching: Analysis of framing and sourcing patterns in news media coverage in India
Rodrigues, Ronald ; Dimitrov, Michal (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
Mob lynching, an act where a group of people brutally beat an individual/s to the extend of mercilessly killing them publicly is being committed in India. These acts have mushroomed since the election of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May 2014. This paper examined frames and sources used by three mainstream national newspapers the Times of India, the Indian Express and The Hindu in the coverage of mob lynching during the first term of Modi from May 2014 to May 2019. Further, the paper studied factors that influence journalists during their coverage and conducted interviews with 6 journalists from the newspapers. The paper aimed to analyse whether the media questions the existing impunity and attributes responsibility for acts of mob lynching. The study found results indicating that mob lynching is portrayed as a 'Conflict' by the news media with a comparatively lower use of the responsibility frame and a heavy reliance on 'police' as sources. The study also pointed out that mob lynching is not an isolated incident but a larger systemic issue in India where the media has an important role in questioning the failure of systems. This thesis is divided to two parts - theoretical (biography), and practical (interpretation of Hořica's war themed literature, and literature of other themes of his literature). Due to lack of the society's interest is my thesis only a summary of the basic articles - the original intention was also comparing of war stories in Bosnia by different authors of the same genre, but even this part would be over the criteria of the bachelor thesis.

Kofroňová, Johana ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Trunečka, Ondřej (referee)
1 Abstract Social media are a part of journalistic work for several years now. One of them, Twitter, plays a major role in the journalistic world. With its speed, conciseness and algorithm setup, it has become the best place for journalists to meet, share information and interact with their readers. This paper examines how seven selected Czech journalists use Twitter. It follows journalists' profiles and analyses their published posts over three months on Twitter (March, April and May 2022). At the same time, each journalist was interviewed to analyse both their social media activity and how they use the networks for their work. Journalists from both, private and public service and audio-visual and written media were selected for this paper. The analysis shows that journalists overwhelmingly present themselves on social media in a purely journalistic way - as journalists who are part of the media. In the vast majority of posts, journalists shared the work of their media outlet and their colleagues. In interviews, journalists most often reported that they saw social media as a way of presenting their work and their colleagues, but also as a tool to help them gain greater insight and simplify access to information. In addition to the benefits, journalists also perceive the complications that social networking...

Journalist 2.0 Alexandr Mitrofanov: "an old-school journalist" in online environment
Krupa, Adam ; Hájek, Roman (advisor) ; Zápotocký, Jan (referee)
The thesis studies the way the journalists, who were used to publish their work in printed media, act in the environment of social network, namely Twitter. I primarily focused on a Twitter account of an influential political columnist, Alexandr Mitrofanov, who had been a long-term contributor to Právo newspaper. Mitrofanov has adapted very well on Twitter. Recently he is mostly known as a micro blogger, he has more than fifty thousand followers. The objective of the research is to find out how and in which way Mitrofanov is active on his Twitter account, what contributions, articles, or comments he posts and in which topics he is interested. I have used the Quantitative content analysis method to assess Mr. Mitrofanov's tweets. The results of the research indicate that Mitrofanov posts tweets every day, there is almost no difference between weekdays and weekends. He mainly makes comments on his follower's tweets. Alexandr Mitrofanov rarely retweets. He hardly ever uses hashtags. Mitrofanov's aversion to use this key element of Twitter (the tool which helps to sort topics and keep track of the news) is a proof that despite of high degree of adaptation to the online environment, Alexandr Mitrofanov still remains an "old-school journalist".
